TITLE: Cose da un altro mondo. I manifesti del cinema di fantascienza

The catalogue has been published for the exhibit Things from Another World. A Journey through Science-Fiction Cinema, Turin 24 May – 27 November 2005, organized by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema at the Mole Antonelliana with the support of Region of Piedmont and Fondiaria-SAI, and the collaboration of City of Turin, Ascom and Martini & Rossi.

In honour of science fiction, The Museo Nazionale del Cinema has organized an exhibition of the wonderful posters from its collections. 120 pictures recreate a thought-provoking visual gallery which chronologically illustrates the history of one of the best loved genres. Beginning with Voyage autour d'une étoile, (1906), one of the earliest films from the dawning of science fiction, it moves on to cult-movies from the Fifties (Forbidden Planet, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The War of the Worlds, The Day the Earth Stood Still…), and then from the Sixties and the Seventies (most importantly 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars), and is completed by the most recent works from the new Millennium (from Minority Report to The Day After Tomorrow and AVP: Alien VS Predator). It is a century of history whose wonderful, and at times enormous, pieces of coloured paper create a truly evocative visual tribute, thanks to the artistic ability and creative impulse of illustrious artists who have fashioned significant and captivating graphic works, contributing to the rise of scenarios, figures and characters to mythical heights in the audience's memory.
